Undergraduate Majors: How To Apply

Congratulations on your decision to apply to the University of Florida! We are excited that you are interested in pursuing a degree in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department. If you are still becoming familiar about our three undergraduate majors, please begin by reviewing the Undergraduate Majors page on our website. The information provided below will be very helpful as you prepare to submit your application to the University of Florida.

All applicants to FSHN@UF must complete the UF Online Application.

Choose the option that best describes you:
  • APPLICATION DETAILS

    Freshman applicants:

    • Apply during your senior year of high school
    • Application materials include a $35 application fee, Student Self-Reported Academic Record (SSAR), test scores and application
    • DEADLINE: For Summer B/Fall semester enrollment, apply by November 1st

    Transfer applicants: 

    • Must complete 60 credit hours and obtain an Associate of Arts (AA) degree before you are eligible to transfer from a Florida State College.
    • If transferring from a Florida State University or out of state institution, you must complete a minimum of 60 transferable credits.
    • Application materials include a $30 application fee, transcripts and application
    • The following prerequisite requirements are required for admission. UF counts all attempts at courses when your GPA is calculated. 

    DEADLINES:

    • Applicants need to apply by September 15th for Spring semester, February 1st for Summer A/C, or April 15th for Summer B/Fall.

    PREREQUISITES FOR TRANSFER APPLICANTS:

    • Dietetics - Prerequisites:
      • CHM2045 w/Lab (or Chemistry I/Lab equivalent)
      • CHM2046 w/Lab (or Chemistry II/Lab equivalent)
      • CHM2046 w/Lab (or Chemistry II/Lab equivalent)
      • BSC2010 w/Lab (or Biology I/Lab equivalent)
      • BSC2011 w/Lab (or Biology II/Lab equivalent)
      • MAC1147 (or MAC1114 and MAC1140) (or Trigonometry and Precalculus equivalent)
      • A cumulative 3.0 prerequisite GPA and minimum C+ grades are required.
      • Prerequisite GPA calculated using all attempts of courses listed (no grade forgiveness)
    • Food Science - Prerequisites:
      • CHM2045 w/Lab (or Chemistry I/Lab equivalent)
      • CHM2046 w/Lab (or Chemistry II/Lab equivalent)
      • BSC2010 w/Lab (or Biology I/Lab equivalent)
      • BSC2011 w/Lab (or Biology II/Lab equivalent)
      • MAC2311 (or Calculus I equivalent)
      • A cumulative 3.0 prerequisite GPA and minimum C grades are required.
