Mission and Program Goals

Mission Statement

The mission of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at the University of Florida is to educate students using a comprehensive science-based food and nutrition curriculum and effective instructional strategies to produce graduates who can meet the high standards expected of entry-level professionals.

Goals and Outcome Measures

2009-2013

Goal 1. Graduate competent, entry-level practitioners and professionals.

Outcome measures:

  1. Over a five-year period, our average placement rate to dietetic internships will exceed the national average.
  2. The five-year average pass rate for first-time test takers on the RD exam will be at least 80%.
  3. Over a five year period, eighty percent of students with junior standing will complete the program.
  4. Of graduates who returned the graduate survey and did not seek a dietetic internship, 50% will attend graduate school or obtain employment in a health or science related profession within 1 year of graduation over a five year period.
  5. Of the graduates who returned the graduate survey, 100% of graduates will rate their preparation in Foundation Knowledge and Skills statements as satisfactory or higher.
  6. Of internship directors who returned the graduate survey, 100% of internship directors who supervised our students will rate the student preparation in Foundation Knowledge and Skills statements as satisfactory or higher.

Goal 2. Foster commitment to community service through participation in community activities.

Outcome measures:

  1. Sixty percent of graduating seniors will participate in a community service project as reported on a senior survey.

Goal 3. Provide learning experiences that foster development of critical thinking and problem solving.
Outcome measures:

  1. Eighty-five percent of students will achieve a score of 80% or higher on their individual student assessment for their academic learning compacts (ALC).
