According to a survey conducted by the American Dietetic Association (Compensation & Benefits Survey of the Dietetics Profession 2007), Registered Dietitians who have been working for five or less years earn a salary of approximately $38,000 to $48,000 annually. Salaries are shown to increase with advanced degrees, years of experience and specialist certifications and vary among career options. Employment opportunities are available in a variety of positions including acute care, long-term care, community nutrition, food and nutrition management, private consultation, and education and research. Many dietetics practitioners receive benefits with employment, including paid holidays, medical coverage, funding for professional development and opportunities for contribution retirement programs. Registered Dietitians have seen increases in salaries in the past five years, particularly in supervisory positions. The mean annualized wages have increased to $53,000 in 2007 from $49,500 in 2005. Some of the highest paying professions for RDs include: executive level professional, director of nutrition, research and development nutritionist, manager of nutrition communications and school foodservice director.
